What is web design?

Web design is how your website looks, feels, and works for the people using it.

It's the layout, the typography, the colours, the way a page guides someone from "just browsing" to "get in touch" or "buy now." Good web design pulls all of that together into something that feels effortless to use.

But it's not just about making something look good, a well-designed website is:

  • Clear - visitors know where they are and what to do next
  • Consistent - every page feels like it belongs to the same brand
  • Usable - it works the same across multiple devices
  • Accessible - it works for everyone, including people using screen readers or navigating by keyboard

Good design isn't a coat of paint at the end, it shapes how your business is perceived before a visitor reads a single word.

What we offer

Every project is different, but here's what we typically work on together - the building blocks we bring to most web design projects, big or small.

Custom design, no templates

We design around your business, not a theme. That means your site looks like you - not using the same off-the-shelf layout, or feeling like it was copied and pasted from a template.

Design systems that scale

We build every project on a design system - a consistent set of components, colours, and type styles. When you add a new page or feature next year, it'll still look like it belongs.

Responsive layouts

Your site is designed to work on desktop, tablet, and mobile from the start, not squeezed to fit afterwards. That means faster load times and a better experience however someone finds you.

Accessible & inclusive design

We design with accessibility in mind from the first wireframe, so your site works for as many visitors as possible, not just the ones using a specific browser or device.

A collaborative process

We talk you through decisions in plain English, and we build in feedback rounds so the end result is something you're genuinely happy with - not just something we think looks nice.

How we work

A rough shape of what happens once you're in - every project flexes a bit, but this is the backbone.

We start by understanding your business, your users, and what the site needs to actually achieve - not just what it should look like.

Before anything is designed, we map out the structure of each page: what goes where, and why. This is where we sort out the logic, so we're not redesigning the layout halfway through.

A wireframe is the blueprint of the project, if you were building a house, you wouldn’t start without one - we feel the same about websites.

The other important thing to know here is this stage is very black and white.

This is where we bring the wireframes to life. Bringing in colours, fonts, imagery, and the design system that'll hold it all together. You'll start to see real pages come together, not just a mood board.

You give feedback, we refine. We build in dedicated rounds for this so nothing feels rushed and nothing gets missed. Each project has a set quantity of design revisions

Once it's signed off, your designs are ready to move into development - either with us, or with your own team.

FAQs

A few common questions about working with us on web design.

Most design projects take 3-6 weeks, depending on how much feedback and revision is needed. If it's part of a full build, the development stage adds more time on top.

Not necessarily as we can design around a rough plan for your content and refine as we go. That said, having key pages and copy ready earlier tends to make the process smoother.

Yes. We design with this in mind, and if the site's built by us too, you'll be able to make day-to-day updates without needing to come back to us for every change.

That's what the review stage is for. We build in dedicated rounds of feedback so we can refine the direction together - it's rare for the first version to be the final one, and that's expected.

Both. We offer web design as a standalone service, or as part of a full web development project - whichever fits what you already have in place.

Just need the design?

If you've already got a developer, a platform, or an in-house team, we can design your site as a standalone project - you take our designs and run with them.

Want it designed and built?

Most of our clients like one team handling the whole thing. We offer web design as part of a full web project, so there's no gap between what's designed and what's built.
