When you just need something done

Sometimes you don't need a whole new website - you just need something fixed, added, or improved on the one you've already got.

That's what ad-hoc web development is: scoped, one-off development work on an existing site, rather than a full build from scratch. Whether that's fixing a bug, adding a new feature, or picking up changes a previous developer may have been unable to complete, we can help - without asking you to sign up for an ongoing retainer.

We work with businesses across Norwich and beyond, getting stuck into existing codebases (even ones we didn't build) to get a specific project done well.

This service is a good fit if:

  • You already have a website - whether we built it or someone else did
  • You need something specific developed - not a full website project
  • No ongoing retainer - just help with the project in front of you

Keeping it simple

No lengthy onboarding, no unnecessary steps, just a simple process to get your job done.

Anything you can provide us on your initial communication is a great place to start. By letting us know what task(s) you have along with your website URL, we can review your website and prepare some questions ahead of a call.

We will arrange a video call or a meet up locally to discuss the project plans, ensuring we have all of the information we need and that you feel happy you've explained what you are looking for.

We give you a transparent scope of work detailing the plan alongside the fees. We also include a suggested timeline, so that we both understand the cost and how long it could take, before the project begins.

We complete the project and hand it back: Straightforward, with no unnecessary steps in between.

What we can do

Ad-hoc web development covers a wide range of tasks, here's what we're asked to help with most often.

Bug fixes & troubleshooting

Something on your site not working the way it should? We'll dig into the code, work out what's going on, and fix it.

New features & functionality

Want to add something your current site doesn't do yet - a filter, a calculator, a members' area? We can build it in.

Third-party integrations

Connecting your website to booking systems, payment providers, CRMs, or other tools you already rely on.

Performance improvements

If your site's running slowly, we can find out what's causing it and speed things up.

Plugin & theme work

Updates, fixes, or custom tweaks to the plugins and theme your site is built on.

Content & platform migrations

Moving content between platforms or hosting setups, without losing what's already there.

FAQs

A few of the questions we're asked most about our ad-hoc development service.

Yes. A lot of the ad-hoc work we do is on sites built by someone else - a previous developer, a freelancer, or an in-house team. We'll take a look at what's there before starting, so you know upfront if anything unusual in the existing setup affects the job.

It depends on the job. Once we know what you need, we'll give you a transparent quote before any work starts - so there are no surprises. Smaller jobs are often quoted at a fixed price; larger or less well-defined ones may be quoted hourly.

Most ad-hoc projects are quicker than a full website project, simply because the scope is smaller. Turnaround depends on what's needed and our lead time, but we'll always give you a realistic suggested timeframe with our quote. It’s also important to advise us of any deadlines, events or times you may be unavailable so we can work around this.

If you find yourself coming back for updates and fixes fairly often, our onging development retainer service might suit you better than booking ad-hoc work each time. Happy to talk through which makes more sense for you.
